Jaap van den Herik is Professor of Computer Science at Tilburg University, Tilburg, The Netherlands, and Professor of Law and Computer Science at the Faculty of Law of the Universiteit Leiden, Leiden, The Netherlands. As Scientific Director of TiCC (Tilburg center for Cognition and Communication), he has been able to attract many talented researchers, and he has supervised 56 Ph.D. researchers.

 

Experience

Professor van den Herik’s research interests include intelligent systems for law applications, computer games, serious games, adaptive agents, neural networks, information retrieval, and access to Cultural Heritage

Additional information

  • Professor Van den Herik has also been distinguished with a number of awards and honours. He is a member of the Royal  Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (since 1999); fellow of the European Coordinating Committee for AI (ECCAI); and honorary Chairman of the JURIX Foundation (1999), among others.
  • Professor van den Herik is a member of TWINS, the Raad voor de Technische Wetenschapen, Wiskunde en Informatica, Natuur- en Sterrenkunde en Scheikunde of the KNAW (since 2008); Chair of the NOW programme committee of the ToKeN research programme (since 1999); Chair of the NOW programme committee of the CATCH research programme (since 2003); Chairman of the Board of ICIS consortium (since 2007);  Chairman of the Board of BIGGRID, a consortium of NCF, NIKHEF and NBIC (since January 2007) and Member of the International Scientific Council of Thales (since 2010).
