ALIVE

ALIVE is a research project funded by the European Commission in the context of the 7th Framework Program. ALIVE will develop new approaches to the engineering of distributed software systems based on the adaptation of coordination and organisation mechanisms often seen in human and other societies to service-oriented architectures. Such methods provide robust descriptions of distributed systems and make the development of complex software systems more accessible to non-specialists.

Dutch Companion

dutch-companionMost of today’s information processing systems interact with their users via built-in, pre-defined rule-based interfaces. They have no or little knowledge of the environment or their user(s). In fact these systems assume a static user environment, which can seldom be guaranteed. In the best of cases the interaction models contain some built-in knowledge of the user’s capabilities, but lack any knowledge of the current state of the user’s tacit or background knowledge, the user’s situational awareness, skills and actual “state-of-mind”. This contrasts heavily with the standard human-human interaction, which contain more elaborate patterns of use and situational awareness, thus grounding the belief that the conception and design of complex information systems that are based on cognitive capabilities will be the key differentiator between future products.

ICIS

icisLogolThe aim of ICIS is to develop better techniques for making complex information systems more intelligent and supportive in decision making situations. The ICIS project combines information technology research and development with research in the human sciences and integrates the resulting knowledge and insights. Although the research results are generally applicable, ICIS focuses on two key applications domains: traffic management and crisis response.

Combined Systems

Combined

The COMBINED Systems project completed in 2007.

COMBINED Systems stands for "Chaotic Open world Multi-agent Based Intelligent NEtwork Decision support Systems"

We imagine future systems to consist of both human actors and artificial agents that work together to achieve their common goals in sometimes chaotic circumstances.
